History

The history of Keith Jones Christian Bookshop can be traced back to 1954, when the bookshop chain Pickering & Inglis (P & I) decided to close their Bournemouth branch (then based in Old Christchurch Road). Mr Keith Jones - born in 1912 and the grandson of Alfred Jones, founder of Jones the Bootmakers - was the manager of the shop at this time. He was given one week's notice of the closure, and three months' pay.

This 'redundancy' money was used to purchase all the P & I shop stock. Also new premises were found - a former photographer's studio in Ellerslie Chambers on Hinton Road.

The building has gone through many changes over the years, and now the shop fills most for the ground floor. One thing has remained, however. From the very beginning Keith Jones Bookshop has always stocked one of the widest ranges of Christian books in the UK, something that continues to today.

The world of Christian retailing has seen many changes in the last 50 years. Keith Jones Bookshop has been at the forefront of many of these, something that continues to this day when we became on of the first Christian retailers in the UK to sell e-books.
